As someone who found ourselves facing eviction when our second child was due, people asked us how we could have been irresponsible enough to fall pregnant in that situation. What people forget is these things don't happen overnight. We were both working (me part time) and things were going really well - we were even starting to build up savings - and decided to have a second child. Two months after I became pregnant my husband lost his job and seven months later we were in dire straits! It can happen to anyone. Since then we've been scraping by, living hand to mouth, still trying to recover from that harrowing time in our lives! And the way some people treated us when we went onto housing benefits for a while rather than living on the street was shocking. I have no pride in even saying that - I hate that we were on HB, but I'm so grateful we had the option for a while!Luschkahttp://www.diaryofafirstchild.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8255954795850538775.post-49632808920336862872014-05-06T20:49:58.059+01:002014-05-06T20:49:58.059+01:00Paraphrasing, Keynes said that you could improve w...Paraphrasing, Keynes said that you could improve wealth through human capital (work), financial capital (risking your assets in the expectation that they will grow) and rent (extracting benefits from existing wealth). It seems that the benefits to 'rent seeking' are more troubling to society than the benefits paid to those in poverty. But no neo-con on Earth will accept that.p0bshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08675522133871324285noreply@blogger.com
